Dear Parent and Caregivers,
MULTI-PURPOSE COURT
We are still working with the builders, certifiers and the project management company to get our court handed over. We had a meeting last week to discuss the hold up and they are still developing a plan to enable the court to meet the full fire certification requirements. This is due to the close proximity to the library and may require some further works to access and exit procedures for the court to enable it to meet certification. Once these works are carried out it will still be another month with the certifiers from that point.
WAKAKIRRI
Our Wakakirri team attended the State Showcase Awards night last Friday night and again performed beautifully in a much stronger competition this time. Whilst they were unlucky to not come away with a National Award nomination this year, they still performed brilliantly and we have had some great feedback around the relevance of the story and the way it was told.
So, a massive congratulations to our 2023 Waka team and their parents for supporting them and travelling down to watch. A huge thank you again to our dedicated staff who have worked tirelessly for two terms to pull the production together. Especially, Miss Dunstan and her team of Ms Kerr, Mrs Harris, Mrs Hall, Mr Harris, Mrs Rees and also Mr Edhouse, who took responsibility for different elements of the production to support Miss Dunstan in her first Wakakirri entry. It is only with the great work and dedication of our staff being prepared to put in the many extra hours required to create something like this that enables our students to have this opportunity.
Thank you also to Mrs Rees, Mrs Burrows who along with myself travelled down to watch the performance then bring the staff and props back to school. Mr Harris was a great help also tying the bed and bus prop to the roof of my ute. I certainly got some strange looks coming along the M1. Thank you to the other staff also who met us at EPAC and helped to unload the props and equipment late into the night.
We look forward to our team providing the whole school community wilth a final viewing of this years entry at our Arts on Stage evening next term on Thursday 9th November.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are currently conducting our prep 2024 enrolment meetings with enrolled prep students for next year. We have opened additional bookings for eligible students for the first two weeks of term 4.
If you know of anyone that is still to enrol for next year, please encourage them to get their paperwork in and to make a booking as soon as possible.
Once our in-catchment enrolments are finalised we will then be able to look at offering enrolment interviews to some out of catchment families before we move to the Prep Transition mornings on Friday November 3 and 17. On those mornings the 2024 Prep students will participate in a morning of activities in class, whilst the parents participate in Prep Information sessions in the EPAC. The Transition mornings go from 9-11am on each of the days. The P&C will be opening the uniform shop during these mornings for special access for the 2024 prep parents.
EXCURSIONS
A reminder to families as our Prep students head off on their first excursion to Nudgee Beach EEC tomorrow, that when students are leaving the school on excursion, they are representatives of the school and must be in full school uniform and of exemplary behaviour at all times. If students arrive at school without the correct uniform parents will be phoned or students may be excluded from the excursion. This includes the full school uniform of shoes, socks, hats and jumpers. When students are representing the school they are to wear their school polo and not a house shirt. Likewise, if behaviour at school prior to the activity is not to a satisfactory standard students may not be invited to attend these excursions/activities and camps as this can pose additional supervision and safety risks for the activity.
A reminder also that if activities have payment required the payment and permissions go to the administration office and if just permissions with no payments these can be managed by the class teachers. It is the responsibility of parents to meet payment deadlines otherwise the invoices lapse and students will be unable to attend.
READERS CUP
Our winning Reader’s Cup team of Layla, Jarvis, Adelyn, Patrick and Charlee, attended the State Finals at Moreton Bay College last Thursday to represent Brisbane North. They were up against some tough competition this time and finished 11th on the day, but there was certainly not much in the final results as they actually came 2nd in Round 3 with a near perfect score of 19.5 out of 20 and they were very close in the other rounds. In fact, when looking at the final scores we finished with 67.25 out of 80 and the winner, St Peter and Paul College with 74.5, so there was only 7.25 marks between the winners and us on the day.
They are to be commended for their great work in preparing for the competition in the lead up and then staying focussed on the day to do so well. For only our second year in the competition and against more than 400 teams across the state, to make the State Finals says a lot for the reading talent in our school and the great reading programs we have on offer at Enoggera and the support for reading in our community. We look forward to competing again next year and building on our successes thus far.
FAMILY FUN DAY
Our wonderful P&C Association ran the Family Fun Day on Saturday, and wasn’t it a great success again and a testament to the amount of work the organisers put in over many months leading up to the day. It was great to see our community come together and have some fun to finish off the term. A huge thankyou to the P&C Executive, Belinda Dow, who was the coordinator for the event and to all of the volunteers on the day. We even had some Yr 6 students helping out on the day, which was much appreciated.
We look forward to seeing how much the event raised, because as we know, our P and C have worked hard for many years to raise $187 000 towards the Multi-Purpose Court roof project. It is now time to restock the bank account so that we can plan for the next big projects in the school and to supplement the grants we currently have in around the ‘Gaming Benefit Fund’ for a new Prep Playground and also the ‘Go For Gold Grant’ for the pool heating and fencing refurbishment.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
As we draw another busy and successful term to a close at Enoggera State School, it is time to reflect and be grateful for the wonderful school community that we have here at Enoggera. We are blessed with supportive families that value education and support the school in every way they can and with a dedicated staff who go above and beyond for our students every single day, and most of all with our talented and energetic students who come every day to do their very best and to support each other in their endeavours.
So, I wish all of our families and happy and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing you all back again next term for the final term of the 2023 school year.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

BEFORE SCHOOL REMINDERS
A friendly reminder to parents, that students are not permitted on school grounds prior to 8:15am in the morning unless they are attending OHSC. There are an increasing number of students arriving prior to 8am to meet up with friends. There are no staff on supervision duty until 8:15am, so for safety we request that students avoid arriving prior to this time. Thanks for your support with this.
Morning Play
Due to some ongoing issues with student play before school from 8:30am, the Behaviour Committee decided to reset the behaviour by stopping play before school for one week while re-teaching the expectations. Since that week, we have slowly introduced one year level to play per day, to play before school monitoring their actions. This will increase over the first weeks of Term 4 resulting in either Junior year levels (Prep – Y2); Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 being permitted to play on different days before school.
It has become evident that as we grow, we cannot allow all students from Prep to Year 6 to play before school every day. Teachers have reported that since stopping, resetting and now restricting the amount of students playing before school, that behaviour is a lot more settled in the morning session in classrooms. In many schools, before school play is not an option so we are lucky that we are still able to offer some mornings of play.
You will notice that Term Four events will start to be posted on our Facebook Page over the school holidays. Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the ‘more’ tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
The Student Council is running another fundraiser at the end of the term to raise money for The Kid’s Cancer Project. Students are invited to dress up as a Pirate on the last day of term Friday 15th September and bring a gold coin donation. Students must wear their school shoes and school hat to school on this day, when in costume.
The Meal Deal fundraiser was held on Tuesday 12th September with 174 orders received from our school community. Thanks everyone for your support.

Family Fun Day
WOWZER!!!! What an epic day we had on Saturday. Thank you to our wonderful school community for coming out and having fun, meeting new families, and catching up with old friends.
These days wouldn’t be possible without our hardworking events team - all working like busy little bees. We are very lucky to have them and the dedication they have to making these events enjoyable for our whole school.
Thank you to our teachers who became target practice for our super soaker game, I’m sure those water balloons were very refreshing. Thank you to Tim Mander who was first up and such a good sport.
Our first ever art Auction was a success, with some items causing a bidding war- Congratulations to all winners, and we hope your art pieces are hanging beautifully in your homes.
We can’t thank our community enough for all of the donations on the day - from books, plants, baked goods and canteen supplies every little bit helped. Local school family photographer Vanessa from Two Ducks Photography captured the day just perfectly.
We would love to hear any feedback from the day via this survey, so that we can make 2025 a SUPER day! https://forms.gle/yGBtczeH77dADHNV9
Tuckshop
As we come to the last week of term 3, we would like to thank all of our volunteers who have helped in the Tuck Inn and with Home baking. It hasn’t been easy, we have had to make changes throughout the term to accommodate.
Our final term for the year is fast upon us and we would love to reopen the menu and continue with our Wednesday specials. We can only do this is we have enough help. Please sign up via the link below if you can help.
Helping in the tuckshop is a great way to make new friends or sign up with friends and have a day catching up. Tuckshop shifts are from 8.30-11.15. Or pop your head in for 10 minutes at drop off and see how you can help.

Firstly, I’d like to say what a great day the Family Fun Day was, I have heard so much positive feedback about the day! A real testament to the ESS family!
The individuals who normally contribute to this newsletter on behalf of the P&C are also some of the people who have worked tirelessly on the Family Fun Day. So, on top of a massive thank you to all our awesome volunteers, I’d like to call out a few specific people for their efforts in organising our great day.
To our event co-ordinator Belinda Dow, thank you for everything you put into the day to make it a success.

Michael Harris
Digital Technologies Teacher
On Thursday August 31st, 54 year 5 & 6 students travelled to Craigslea State High School for the annual Queensland Primary Schools Volleyball Cup. This year’s competition was a little different to past years as there were two different divisions of participation. All Enoggera teams were placed in the “non-competitive” draw, however after watching the early games it is easy to see that the games were nothing but competitive. One of the grade 5 girls teams even got praise from another school for the way they played the game. They were happy to win the point, but encouraged the opposition when they scored too. Well done girls, that is the spirit we should all play with.
Students remained hydrated and stayed mostly in the shade which was important on such a hot day. I was very pleased to not see any sunburnt faces on our return to school.
I am pleased to say that overall the students behaviour was excellent, something that ESS prides itself on when we are out representing out community. Well done team.
Finally, the results. We had 2 winning teams – the girls grade 6 Blue team and the grade 6 boys Green team both won their division. Excellent effort! We had another team get 3rd place the grade 5 girls Red team. Another great effort. All other teams did make some finals appearance so again a huge well done to all!
A big thanks to the teachers attending on the day - it is a big day on your feet but hopefully the quality volleyball on display made up for it. Thanks to Mrs Hall, Mr Emes and TA Mr Giblin.
Hats
Its getting very hot outside for our PE lessons and lunch time play. Sunsafe hats are an essential part of our school uniform. Please check that your child has their hat everyday. In our younger classes we have been talking about how they can remember to always have their hats – keep it in their bag, leave it in tidy trays or some even have a spare hat so they always have one.
A huge congratulations to all grade 2 students as every student had their hats this week – such a pleasing effort, well done.
Interschool Sport
Gala Days are being planned for City District Schools for the first three Fridays in Term 4. Notes have been sent home and are due back at school this week for all year 5 & 6 students. Teams have been nominated and some practice will begin. If you have not returned the permission form or paid the bus fee – please do so by the due date.
Plans are also underway for the year 3 & 4 classes to participate in skill development programs at school on the same three Fridays that the senior students are participating in Gala sports.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for swimming days as it will likely change. If you are a parent of a child in Prep to grade 2 and would like to volunteer at the swimming lessons, please email me directly to let me know – aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Remember for swimming students will need the following:
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible, they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.
(Please make sure ALL items of clothing are marked with the students name – this includes school uniforms.)

PETITION FOR Red Light Camera - email from local resident
I’m a local resident and have started a petition calling for the installation of a red light camera at the crossing near Marcellin Bus Stop on South Pine Road: https://chng.it/bkQ6LxxBXd
My children attend OLA Primary School and I’ve witnessed scores of near misses over the years as cars sail through amber and red lights in an effort to beat the traffic congestion on South Pine Road.
I know many ESS students also use this crossing. If you are able to share the petition with your school community, that would be great.
I’ve flagged this with OLA, our local member Tim Mander MP, and the officer in charge at Ferny Grove Police Station.
Kind regards,
Louise Crossen
