Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the Health and Strengths category. The wellbeing skill builder is Treasures Breathing. This skill helps students to learn how to combine deep breathing exercises with thinking about people and the pets they treasure as a way of calming down and focussing. Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article regarding this topic is attached for your information.
‘GIANTS IN THE SKY’ MUSICAL
Our first whole school musical is getting very close! Next week the show will be performed across four performances on the 22, 23 and 24 August. We are so looking forward to sharing this special event with the school and wider community. Tickets can be purchased through Try Booking, here is the link or QR code below;
https://www.trybooking.com/1220955
We have already seen an amazing response from the community with sales soaring! There are however still lots of seats available for each of the shows. Please pass the word around to other community members who might like to see the show as we are hoping to see four sell out shows.
PREP 2025 ENROLMENT MEETINGS
A reminder that our 2025 Prep Enrolment Interviews will be held in the last three weeks of this term and the beginning of Term 4. These will be followed by our Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4 on November 1 and 15 from 9-11am and then our final roll up afternoon in week 10 of Term 4 on December 4. The SOBS link to book enrolment interviews is below and information has also been emailed out to the Prep 2025 mailing list. Bookings are open now and will remain open until 24hrs prior to each booking date.
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70109
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please let them know of the Enrolment meetings coming up, where enrolments for next year are finalised and important information gathered to inform Prep class placements. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolments forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
OPINION SURVEY
A reminder that the School Opinion Survey will close this Friday 16 August for students in Year 5/6, parents and staff can have their say via the individual survey links emailed out by the DoE. The data from these surveys is collated by the DoE and shared with schools at the end of the year to inform planning for the following school year. We encourage as many families as possible to complete the survey.
STUDENT COUNCIL MAJOR FUNDRAISER
Our Student Council have planned their major fundraiser for this year which is to be a Spell-a-thon! This will be followed by a Spelling Bee competition. The idea is that students will be provided with a list of 50 spelling words appropriate to their year level from the Australian Curriculum to learn. They will find sponsors per word correct eg. 5c/word. They will then be tested on the words in class to get their score to work out how much money to collect from their sponsors.
After the Spell-a-thon the classes will choose their class spelling champion who will then play off to find the champion speller in each year level. The Spelling Bee Competition will be held in EPAC where the year level champions play off against each other word for word, using year level differentiated lists to determine our ESS Spelling Bee Champion for 2024. The lists are differentiated so the winner could be from any year level as it is based on an elimination style competition where they are eliminated if they get a word incorrect.
Our Student Council look forward to our community getting behind this event to help them to raise money for their legacy item for this year. They are still deciding as to whether to purchase another table tennis table for the students to allow more students to play each day, or to get a cold-water bubbler to fill up drink bottles or maybe both depending on how much they raise. Not only will there be financial gain, but this should help to put a spotlight on the importance of being good spelling.
Letters will go out to all families next week with a sponsorship card and the spelling lists for students to commence getting sponsors or donations. All information will be explained in the letter.
PLAYGROUNDS AND OVALS OUT OF SCHOOL
A reminder that all of our play spaces are out of bounds to students and visitors before and after school each day. Our OSHC lease these facilities during this time for the students in their care and it is very difficult for them to supervise their children when other students are on the playgrounds and ovals who are outside their duty of care. We ask parents to ensure that their children are not on these spaces after school at all and that if you are wanting to meet up with other families for after school play dates you move to other parks for this. This includes students attending rehearsals at EPAC for Music, Dance, the Musical etc, as they are not to be on playgrounds when attending these events as there is no staff supervision.
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
A reminder that there are two days that our school is closed this term:
Wednesday 14th August for the EKKA holiday
Friday 30th August for a departmental Student Free Day.
There are still numerous students attending school not wearing the correct school uniform. Students are not permitted to wear alternate jumpers to school. If your child has misplaced their jumper, please check lost property near the Uniform Shop under A Block. It is essential that you clearly label you child’s jumpers and other items of clothing. We have a very helpful parent who regularly goes through the lost property and returns named items to the office to distribute to children. Students are also required to wear short white socks with their school shoes. Long socks and black socks are not part of our Uniform. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars include Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around improving our behaviour in learning.
- Listen to Learn –showing respect by allowing the teacher to teach without interruptions and to listen with the purpose of learning.
- Be on Task - ignoring distractions and using their time to focus on the task at hand
- Ask for Help – being brave to speak up and ask for help with they need it
- Acting on Feedback - going back and making changes based on feedback to improve work
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
Thanks to everyone for supporting the Student Council Pyjama Day. As a school community we raised $338 towards the legacy item.
Our next fundraiser will be the Subway Meal Deal on Monday 2nd September (Week 9).
The Charity being supported by the Student Council this term is the National Endagered Species Foundation. Students will be able to bring their favourite stuffed animal to school on Friday 6th September and donate a gold coin to this charity.
The Wellbeing Initiative for this term was focused on appreciation. Every student in the school was provided with a colourful Certificate of Appreciation that they were asked to give to a friend, teacher or staff member in appreciation for something that they do. Lots of certificates were given to classmates and teachers. Mr Colin also was presented with a lot of certificates for all the work he does looking after our school. Some of these certificates will be on display in the office for people to enjoy!
Thank you for your support of the Student Council.
After School Reminders
Please note the following reminders about after school expectations:
- Students are not permitted to play on either playground afterschool even under Parent Supervision due to Duty of Care still falling under the school’s responsibility, and the fact the playgrounds are leased by Camp Australia from 3pm.
- Students are not permitted to ride bikes or scooters through the school grounds.
- Children waiting with parents at tennis lessons are expected to follow our school rules of using walking feet at all times on the concrete (no running), and staying out of school gardens.
- Students waiting at South Pine Stop, Drop and Go are not permitted to play handball while waiting for their pick up as it slows down the flow of traffic when they are not ready to get straight into the car.
Parliament House Visit

Last Tuesday, Mrs Burrows and the School Captains Adelyn, Bronte and Isabella visited Parliament House as guests of Mr Tim Mander – Member for Everton. We had a lovely tour of many of the rooms in Parliament House including the library with books from floor to ceiling. We also got to sit where the politicians sit when parliament is in session! After our tour we had a BBQ lunch on the rooftop overlooking the river. It was a wonderful experience and we thank Mr Mander for his kind invitation to attend.
Tickets are on sale now! Don’t miss out!
Book Week
We are launching Book Week 2024 with our Book Week Parade on Friday 16th August. This event is for all year levels and parents and caregivers are welcome to attend. Weather depending, the Book Parade will take place on the multi-purpose court. In the case of rain, it will be moved to the EPAC.
The Parade is due to start at 9:15am with students making their way from classrooms at 9am.

Science Week 10th – 18th August 2024
This week students will have opportunities to engage in lunchtime activities aligned to this year’s theme – Species Survival: More than just sustainability. Students will be learning about important sustainability issues and how we as individuals, and members of the community can take action to protect our local area and wildlife.
Live @ the Library Monday 12th August
On Monday of this week students in Years 2 – 6 attended Live @ the Library. Stig Weymss – actor and audio narrator of Boy Swallows Universe and The Treehouse series entertained our students with humorous anecdotes around the processes involved in narrating stories. They were fortunate to hear live narration of an Andy Griffiths story and some lucky volunteers even took home some audio stories as prizes. I would like to thank the Everton Park Library for their assistance in providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.
Book Week 2024
Enoggera’s fabulous Book Week festivities will kick off with our famous Book Week Parade on Friday 16th August on the Multipurpose Courts at 9:15am. The theme this year is "Reading is Magic". Mrs Amy O'Malley
Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.
LOST PROPERTY REMINDER
As responsible learners, we encourage our students to take care of their belongings. As children become involved in their learning, or at lunch time, they may become pre-occupied and leave something behind. To assist in belongings being returned to their owner, it is strongly encouraged that everything is named (e.g. lunchboxes, hats, jumpers, etc).
If property is found and not named, the item will be kept in the lost property until the end of the term. Please check lost property if your child is missing something. Our lost property is located directly under administration, opposite the uniform shop.
At the end of the term, the items in lost property will be displayed for students to check. All items not collected at the end of each term will be donated to charity or discarded.
STOP DROP AND GO ZONE – 285 South Pine Road
The stop, drop and go zone is monitored each morning and each afternoon by a staff member. The correct procedure for this area is to drive up to the gate where the staff member is standing who will assist the safety of your student/s out of the car and on to the school grounds. Please do not stop half way and try and help your student out of the car at the first gate closest to the OSHC and Administration. If you do stop at the first gate, this causes a ripple effect in cars backing up and blocking the school entry and affecting the school crossing. Please follow the directions of the staff member to ensure the smooth transition of cars during these busy times.
Brisbane City Council has been advised of illegal street parking in the area and people not following the stop drop and go sign rules. Vehicles must not be left in this area at any time. If you require additional time to unload your student/s in the morning please ensure you’re a parking in a street park and walking up to the school. Alternatively, we have a stop drop and go zone located on Laurel Street, which is also monitored daily by a staff member. The same rules apply. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Did you know Queenslanders go through around 3 billion drink containers each year? Containers for change has created a way to recycle those containers that incentivises Queenslanders, and positively impacts our environment and the communities we live in.
The Containers for Change Schools program is a school-based program designed to encourage Queensland schools to raise money through the Containers for Change scheme and help educate the next generation on the importance of recycling. If you are collecting containers and would like to donate these to Enoggera State School, please use the following code: C10051863 when dropping off at one of the main containers for change deposits.
GENERAL FINANCE
Just a reminder that full payment on the below activities is due soon. Please note if full payment and the online consent form isn’t received by the due date students will unfortunately not be able to attend. Late payments and consents cannot be accepted. If you are having financial difficulty and require financial assistance, please contact bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to arrange a payment plan.

Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
QPARENTS
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from Term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, where consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion. Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
It is important that all Year 1 and Prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child that has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable – we cannot accept already used and washed underwear.
Have a fantastic fortnight.

Written by Bronte Scholes together with Adelyn Blatchford and Isabella Hall
On the 6th of August, Isabella, Adelyn and I attended Parliament House with Mrs Burrows. Tim Mander, MP Member for Everton, invited us to attend along with three other schools, McDowall, Albany Hills and Everton Park State School.
Once we arrived, Mr Mander gave us a tour throughout the building. We got to see the chair where the Monarch sits when he comes to visit. We were very lucky to go into the Legislative Assembly Chamber where politicians debate the laws. We learnt that there are 93 members of Parliament and that the Mace Bearer carries the mace while entering the debating room. Lastly, Tim Mander showed us the library that contains all the speeches from the arguments that have happened since the 1800’s. He called it the ‘Harry Potter Library’ as it looks very similar. We had an awesome time and agreed that this was a great experience.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
This term in HASS, 5/6 students have been learning about Australia’s position in the world. With the Olympics being held this year, it is a perfect opportunity for students to learn about Australia’s relationship with other countries and in particular, our relationship with Asia. Students have each selected an Asian country to research and will create PowerPoint slides to present their findings. They have been looking into environmental characteristics such as climate and natural features, human characteristics such as demographics, economics and culture and will be looking into Australia’s top trading partners and the reasons trade is important. We can’t wait to see their finished presentations!

Hello Brisbane Schools and Families,
Brisbane Festival is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible celebration of arts and culture. This September, we're proud to present a program that will inspire audiences with new ideas and experiences that leave life-long impressions.
Fancy Long Legs. Ages 3-8 years. 12-22 Sep. La Boite Theatre.
A groundbreaking, fully accessible work for young audiences and the young at heart. The show has been created with accessibility at its core to ensure the theatre experience is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all.
Lighting the Dark. All ages. 12-14 Sep. Thomas Dixon Centre.
A bold new work by Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and choreographer living with Down Syndrome. With the mesmerising Dancenorth Ensemble by his side, Chris leads the way, transforming the stage into a portal where love and light illuminate darkness.
We also invite you to bring your family along to sing, dance and connect at our free Brisbane Serenades outdoor concerts.
Hope to see you at the festival!
Did you watch the 800 metres Track and Field and see Peyton Craig in the Olympics onThursday evening 8 August?:
I wanted to let you know about something awesome we are doing here at Official School wear – our Scholarships For Dreams competition.
We are so proud of being a small part of Peytons journey to the Olympics. They say that the first step in achieving something amazing is to first conceive and believe you can achieve.
Scholarships for dreams was founded to follow the philosophy of Barry Berghan who believes that we all must have a dream. That we all need to support and encourage each other with positivity and energy and that the best thing we ever do is to give to help others achieve.
So, please pass this around to all the students of your school community and invite them to send in their BIG dreams as they expect great things!
Here is a link to the site where they can enter https://scholarshipsfordreams.com/
