HOLIDAYS! School returns 28 January 2025 |
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose’ category and the wellbeing skill builder is Celebrating Differences. This topic ensures that we understand that everyone in our school community has their own different backgrounds and strengths, and to ensure that we value and celebrate these differences. If we are able to accept and celebrate other’s differences we will feel more connected to our school community.
Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article re this topic is attached for your information.
2025 CLASS PREFERENCE FORMS
Please find again below the class preference form for students for 2025. There is a space on the form to indicate if your students will be returning to ESS for 2025 and if so, this is an opportunity to reflect on this year and indicate a preference of the style of class and teacher that would suit your students better. There is also a place to indicate students you would prefer they be placed with or not for next year. These forms will need to be returned to the administration office (not class teachers) by the end of week 4 - Friday 25th October, to be considered in the class placement process. We will commence this process with teachers in week 5.
Please be reminded that this is not an opportunity to choose a teacher as at this stage staffing and teacher placements for next year have not been finalised. Whilst we take on board the feedback, of course there is no guarantee that all requests can be actioned, as ultimately, we have to make the best placements conducive to teaching and learning for all students.
PREP 2025 ENROLMENTS AND TRANSITION MORNINGS
A reminder that if you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please remind them to get their enrolments in asap as we are now planning for the next phase of the process which is the Prep Transition mornings to be held next Friday on November 1 and Nov 15 for all enrolled 2025 Prep students. Email reminders around the transition processes have been sent out to all enrolled families today.
2024 YEAR BOOK
A reminder that again this year we are producing a Year Book of the 2024 school year at Enoggera State School. This book is a great memory book of the year and is available to purchase by our families. It includes class pages and pages on all of our school events and activities throughout the year. It also includes a special focus on our graduates.
The book is gifted to our graduating students at the graduation ceremony and will also be available for collection for families who order and pay for one prior. Order forms will be emailed out shortly so if you wish to purchase the year book please complete the order form attached and return to the office with payment Friday, November 29, so that you do not miss out.
As we only have 60 available this year the first 60 families that order will receive their copy before the holidays. A further order can be placed after that for delivery at the start of school next year.
GRADUATION
A reminder that our Graduation Ceremony for our Year 6 students will be held on Thursday 5th December at 9:00am in EPAC. This will be followed by the Guard of Honour later in the day and then the Graduation Social Event in EPAC that night.
Information will go out shortly to the Year 6 families with information about the event. The cost of tickets for a 3-course catered buffet dinner will be $45 per head. There will be a DJ to entertain the students after the dinner. There will be a limit on 3 tickets per student to the dinner (graduate and 2 parents) only.
Thank you to those parents who attended the meeting last Friday afternoon to set up a committee of parents who would be interested in assisting with some roles as the event gets closer. These would be tasks such as setting up, cleaning up, decorating the EPAC and setting up a photo booth. Please contact Tina Burrows at school if you would like to help but were unable to attend the meeting.
WEEK 11
A reminder that we are still working on a plan for week 11 of this term, however as was in the last newsletter, this week 11 of school is being termed a ‘soft week’ and there will be no formal activities or formal teaching occurring. All official school events will be finalised by the usual end of week 10 of the term and week 11 will be supervision and alternative activities for those students’ requiring supervision.
Therefore, if families are wishing to go on holidays early, they can go at the end of week 10 as usual, without missing anything important at school. Hopefully, with less students attending in week 11 we will be able to collapse classes so that our teachers get some planning and preparation time for the new school year before heading into the holidays.
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT SURVEY
A reminder that the survey around the review of our Student Code of Conduct is currently out for consultation and will close on Monday 27th October. This information will be very valuable to our Leadership team as we finalize the final piece of the consultation puzzle around the review so that we can adjust our document to get it out to the community ready to start the new school year.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING COMMUNITY
Members of our teaching team and leadership team are currently part of a year long regional program called CLC where we will work collaboratively with other schools to interrogate our achievement data (NAPLAN and A-E) and to refine our strategies in place, to ensure the maximum numbers of students are achieving A and B grades in English each semester. We are very excited to be part of this project as it will help us to sharpen our teaching tools and strategies in place for the benefit of students in our school. Thank you to Mrs Egerton and Mrs Harris for representing the class teachers on this project.
SCHOOL’S OFFICER POSITION
Unfortunately, our recent recruitment process for a new permanent School’s Officer has come up empty without a suitable applicant being appointed to the role. On the advice from HR we are now moving forward with a temporary EOI to fill the position for the rest of the term and into the new year before we conduct another process.
An EOI advertisement is in this newsletter and has also gone out on our Facebook site and other internal discussion lists in the hope of broadening the net from Smart Jobs to find a suitable School’s Officer for our school. If you know of anyone who might be suitable please pass the word on.
CHAPLAINCY
Recently the Local Chaplaincy Committee were advised that our Chappy Twinkee will be completing her studies at the end of this year and taking fulltime employment in the new year. This will mean that our Chaplain position will be vacant.
Recently at the P & C meeting, discussions were had around the option of changing to the new Wellbeing Officer also provided from the same funding. As this change can only occur when the position is vacant or at the end of funding agreement, it was decided to send a survey to all families in our school community to get an indication for ongoing support of having a Chaplain in our school or moving to the new Wellbeing Officer. I have provided some information below re the two roles but basically both positions do the same role, but the Chaplains are provided by Scripture Union and Wellbeing Officers can come a from range of different approved providers to meet the funding guidelines.
Therefore, a survey will be emailed out to all families in the next couple of days and it would be great if each family could decide if they would support a Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer moving forward for the rest of this funding period until 2027.
Once we determine the needs of the community this will be ratified at the next P & C C meeting in November, so that we can move forward with either recruiting a new Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer for 2025.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Pillar Practice

This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around our Relationships and Safety Pillars focusing on improving responsible behaviours in our toilets.
This has been an ongoing issue this year with a lot of feedback provided through the Student Council. Last week, senior leaders visited all the classrooms to deliver some important messages about our expectations for behaviour in the classroom.
We would appreciate parents taking some time at home to go through these key expectations with your children.
Front Gate
Parents are asked to please drop children at the supervised gate (closest to the library) when using the South Pine Road Stop, Drop and Go zone from 8:15am. Some parents are letting students out of the car to go through the gate closest to Camp Australia which is not supervised, and causes issues with the flow of traffic.
In the afternoon, this gate also should not be used by parents or students to exit the school ground as it is very dangerous to try to cross the carpark during this peak time. Please use the front gate of the school to leave the school grounds or the supervised the gate to access the car park. Thank you for your support of these processes to ensure the safety of our children and community.
Student Leaders 2025
Student Council News - Day for Daniel
Once again, Enoggera State School Student Council will be supporting Day for Daniel on Friday 25th October. Students will be permitted to wear a red shirt and/or socks to school on this day in support of Day for Daniel and the Student Council will collect gold coin donations from students to donate to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
There will be a “Dance for Daniel Disco” on the AstroTurf in front of the Prep A veranda and our Chappy Twinkee will get everyone dancing at second break. Students are reminded that they cannot colour their hair for this event or bring red balloons to school. Thank you for your support of Day for Daniel.
Due to the Gala Sports catch up day being this Friday, Year 5/6 students will be unable to dress up but are invited to donate a gold coin before leaving for sport.
Student Council - Free Dress Day
Our departing Year 6 students were given the choice of theme for their final free dress day and they opted for a ‘Free Choice’ dress up day. Students are permitted to wear anything they like so long as it is school appropriate and includes their school shoes and hats. Please bring along a gold coin to support the Student Council.
Student Council Wellbeing Initiative

Aligning with the Learning Curve Program implemented in our school, the School Council focus for the wellbeing initiative is hope. Students are able to go the library to collect or complete a “Hands of Hope” activity. Students are encouraged to reflect on 5 things they are hopeful for and write these on each finger of the hand.
The hand can then be decorated with colours and patterns. These will then be on display in the library.
If your child brings this activity home to complete, please speak with your child about their hopes for the future and help them to record them on the activity sheet. Thanks for your support of this wellbeing initiative.
Swimming Lessons
Just a reminder that only students who have their lessons at 9am or 10am are allowed to wear their togs to school under their uniforms. There are many students arriving at school with their rashie shirts (often long sleeved) under their uniforms yet they do not swim until after the first or second break of the day. With the temperatures during the day becoming increasingly hotter, wearing togs under uniforms for such a long time is both very hot for students, uncomfortable and unhygienic. There is time allotted within the lesson time for changing in and out of swimmers for all classes.
Swimming Carnivals are coming up soon in Week 9. We look forward to seeing lots of parents there. If you are coming to the senior carnival, please remember to bring a folding chair to sit on, as the students will be in the stands during the event.
A reminder that students are required to wear ALL black shoes to school as part our Dress Code. Socks should be white only. As we begin our last term of the year, it is important that we maintain our dress code at all times. For our older students who are interested in applying for leadership positions, adherence to the dress code is taken into account in their application. As the weather warms up, please ensure that your children are bringing their water bottles and hats to school every day!
All sponsorship forms and money are to be returned to the office by this Friday 25th October for the Spell-a-thon. Please note, the sponsorship forms must be returned even if you did not have any sponsors on it. We have had a huge response to this event and have already collected close to $4000 from the community. Prizes for the top fundraisers will be presented on Assembly in Week 6!
Teachers are now in the process of selecting a class representative for the year level spelling bees which will be held in class by Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burrows starting next week for Years 3-6. This will be an elimination style competition. This will then give us our 7 finalists from each year level, who willcompete in the ESS Spell-a-thon before assembly on Monday 18th November! Good luck to all competitors!

Students will be able to peruse the fair with their class and purchases can occur from Thursday 7th November until Wednesday 13th November. Family members are most welcome to attend. The Fair will be open until 6pm on Monday 11th November.
Every Day Counts
As we head into weeks four and five of learning it is very important to impress upon our students the need to be at school on time everyday. At this stage of the term students are practising, consolidating and refining their skills and knowledge, prior to the completion of Term 4 assessment. This data will contribute significantly to grades awarded for Semester Two 2024.
Mrs Amy O'Malley
Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
PREP Enrolments 2025
Our enrolment process for Prep 2025 is almost completed. If you live in our catchment area and have not put in an application, please contact the school office immediately.
PREP Transition Program (2 Days) - 1 November, 15 November and Roll up afternoon on 4 December
Next week on Friday 1 November, we will be holding our first Transition morning for our new Prep students who are enrolled for next year. This session runs from 9am to 11am. Parents will be provided with an information session whilst your students meet the other Prep students and Teachers and complete activities in the classrooms. We will be holding another session on Friday 15 November, again from 9 to 11 am. The information presented to parents will be different at both sessions.
Please meet outside EPAC on Laurel St at 8:45am and find your child’s name on their class list for the morning. Please sign them in and put on their name tag and take them over to the grassed area where the markers are labelled with the class names and assist them to line up behind the markers. The class teachers and teacher aides will arrive at 9am to collect their classes. At this time parents are asked to move into EPAC for the information session planned.
Please be aware that our uniform shop will also be open on each of these mornings for the purchase of uniforms from 10:30-12:00pm from the uniform shop, located directly under the administration office.
It would be ideal if you and your child could attend both sessions.
We will also hold an afternoon session on Wednesday 4 December at 2pm. This is our roll up afternoon where all students move up to their new classrooms. The Prep students will meet their classmates and their Class teacher for next year.
We realise that people may be away or have other plans, however we strongly recommend that your child attends all 3 sessions to assist with their transition to school.
Please let us know if you will not be attending any session, either via email to: admin@enoggerass.eq.edu.au or by phone to 07 3550 1333.
Outstanding Library Books
Please be aware that notes have been provided to all classes this week to students who have outstanding library books. If you have a student who receives one of these notes and are unable to locate the book/s on this list provided, please advise administration as there will be a fee incurred to replace the missing book/s.
Borrowing from the library will finish at the end of week 7 for all students. Any outstanding books will then be invoiced to parents and caregivers following this. Year 6 students leaving this year, also need to ensure these invoices are paid prior to being exited from Enoggera State School.
Invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
Have a wonderful fortnight!
Ellie Mastropostolos
Business Manager
Year 2’s are looking forward to another big term! After a wonderful Term 3 where many of our students put on a wonderful performance in the musical, and our fantastic excursion to Lone Pine, we are buckling down for the final weeks of Year 2.
In science we are looking at resources such as water and how we can conserve water by reducing waste and preventing evaporation. We will be conducting experiments to investigate parts of the water cycle.
And in English, we are following the adventures of Traction Man, so that we can write our own stories featuring him. We will be showing how heroic, brave and kind he is in our stories, as he explores and rescues with the help of his cute and loyal pet, Scrubbing Brush!
Tree Seedlings
As part of the Digital Technologies sustainability curriculum, we currently have in our garden, nine Castanospermum austral (black bean) trees in the garden ready for transplanting!
These trees are excellent erosion control and can grow into magnificent rainforest trees. See the picture above. They are not great trees for around the house but are fantastic for erosion control. We are hoping some families or land-care people will take these tiny trees and plant them, especially in the Kedron Brook catchment area before the summer wet season.
Michael Harris
Digital Technologies Teacher
Interschool Gala Sport
Our Year 5 & 6 Students participated in the City District Interschool Sport (Gala Sport) for the last few weeks. Due to the fields being rained out in week 2, there is still one more week of games remaining - This Friday the 25th of October is the last session. Teams participated in Girls Touch, Boys Touch and T20 Cricket.
Thanks to Ms Lancaster, Ms Kerwick, Ms Dowling and Ms Dunstan who supported the students during these activities – this included umpiring or refereeing games. Thanks also to Mrs Talbot and Mrs Fitzpatrick for getting the first aid kits ready for us.
A special shout out to Mr and Mrs Howard who were able to help set up the fields at the last minute. Your help was greatly appreciated.
A reminder that everyone needs to be bringing their hats, water bottles, lunch and sunscreen. It is important that students bring their lunch to ensure they are fuelling their bodies well. Canteen purchases only supplement their lunches, not replace them.
Year 3 & 4 Sport
Our Year 3 & 4 students participated in their first week of our sports skills program. All students spent our middle session and afternoon session out on the oval and/or the multipurpose court rotating through four separate sports. This will happen while our year 5 & 6 classes are out at Gala sports.
Our focus for the program are the sports that we participate in annually, namely, Volleyball, Touch and T20 Cricket. The fourth sport is a multi-sport – activities like 10 pin bowling and bocce. Thanks to Mrs Arthur, Mrs Harris, Mrs Moeser and Mr Taylour for supporting our program along with Teacher Aides, Mrs Butwell and Mrs O’Donnell.
Swimming
Swimming is continuing in term 4 – thank you to everyone who has been bringing their equipment as needed each week. Another thanks to parents who have been notifying us if their child is unable to participate in swimming.
We are still looking for help from parents in all of our Prep to year 2 classes, with some classes in more urgent need of help. Thank you so much to those who have already volunteered and are coming along as we can’t do it without you.
If you are able to help either for one lesson or even once a week please email aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Adult support in these age groups makes a huge difference to our programs.
A reminder that personal equipment (swim cap, rashie, towel) is required to participate in the swimming program. There are limited numbers of “spare” equipment that is ok to use sometimes, but its important to get in the habit of having everything ready.
Named items of clothing are also essential. There were many lost items last week that could be solved easily if everything was named – yes EVERYTHING!
