Dear Parent and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week our Learning Curve program is from the ‘Relationships and Empathy’ Wellbeing element. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘Copying Each Other’ in Prep to Year 2 and ‘Mirror Copying’ in Years 3-6. The P-2 lessons are about how we as humans naturally learn by copying how others feel and act. We do most of our learning by watching somebody else first. For example, when a coach shows you how to do a sports movement it helps you to know what to do because your brain learns about it and can then copy it.
For the Yr 3-6 students the focus is about how the mirror neurons in our brain copy how other people feel and act. For example, if we are around angry or unhappy people our brain will mirror that and you will become angry and unhappy too. So, the challenge for us is to always be a positive person and to project positive emotions that will spread happy feelings.
These concepts were introduced on assembly this week and are being taught in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan and followed up in classrooms. Our Yr 3-6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Thank you to our wonderful teachers who gave their time last night to conduct our Semester One Parent Teacher interview's. Thank you also to the parents who were able to attend as it was wonderful to see and feel the positive vibe in the EPAC once again, as teachers, students and parents focussed on the learning conversations and how our students can continue to improve this semester.
Thank you also to Mrs Burrows (flight attendant extraordinaire) who stepped up to coordinate the evening in Mrs O’Malley’s absence. She did a great job keeping the proceedings ticking along on schedule. We look forward to our students taking on their feedback to continue to work hard for the grades they are aiming for this semester and our teachers and parents supporting them with their Semester One learning goals.
ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (AIP) PRIORITIES FOR 2025
Our AIP for 2025 has now been endorsed by the School Council and also by our School Supervisor ready for sharing and publishing. The AIP will go up on the school website this week as part of the required publishing of the plan. INFRASTRUCTURE
Over the coming school holidays as usual there will be works undertaken at our school. The front of our school will get a new facelift and increased security with our pool fence along the stop drop and go being replaced with the new 8 foot high DoE security fencing that you may have seen at other schools. This is a start in getting new fencing around the whole school perimeter. We are still trying to get on the fencing program for this to happen, but it is a start at least.
The rest of the works around the B and C block refurbishment program will also be completed with the new classroom doors, autext operable walls between classrooms and noticeboards going in as well as paint touch ups and some other minor repairs.
We also have some stormwater work being done down the side of the school site between C Block, the pool and the church fence to allow water to get away better and not pool around the water tanks. In addition to this there is some work also being done on the multi-purpose court to ascertain and correct an issue with the ridge caps and sheeting which has been allowing water to get in and pool on the court in heavy weather.
A reminder that over the holidays if you see any suspicious activity at the school you should report this to School Watch at 131788 as below.
2026 PREP ENROLMENTS
We will be commencing our 2026 Prep enrolment process with our first Open Morning of the year next term on May 2 from 9-11am. The morning is for all prospective ESS families and will commence with a presentation in EPAC with a Q&A at the end, then a tour of the school facilities. Families wishing to enrol a Prep student for 2026 can collect an enrolment pack from the Administration office and return the completed enrolment form at any time. At this stage we are accepting enrolments for in-catchment families only. If you are out-of-catchment and wishing to enrol for 2026 you can complete a waiting list form and we will be in touch later in the year as enrolments for 2026 are firmed up and we determine if there are any spaces remaining.
P&C AGM
Last week after the March General Meeting, the Annual General Meeting was held to elect the new P&C Executive for 2025. I thank the current outgoing executive for their tireless work for the P&C and school and particularly for the legacy they have left the school with the erection of the multi-purpose court roof and lights. Debbie Brauer has stepped down as Treasurer after 4 years in the role and Jess Wall stepped down as Secretary after 1 year in the role. We thank them whole-heartedly for the work they have done and the difference they have made to the students of this school.
The newly elected Executive moving forward for 2025 are:
President – Mel Russell
Vice-President- Xavier Carah
Treasurer- Shane Evans
Secretary- Rita Carrick
We wish our new executive team all the best and I look forward to working closely with them over the coming year. It is great to see some members of the executive continuing on and also some new faces joining the P and C as members and executive for this year.
TEACHING OF READING V9
Following on from the V9 Reading information in the past two newsletters with links to the parent handout and also the recorded parent twilight PD session (links below again), this fortnight I would like to share some of the changes and work around the assessment of reading that will be gradually introduced with the changes.
https://mediasite.eq.edu.au/mediasite/Play/d5a99b04712b44758dc85854bde46a3c1d
https://det-school.eq.edu.au/assets/reading/documents/reading-parent-brochure.pdf
Moving forward with v9 Australian Curriculum Reading will continue to be explicitly taught and assessed as part of the curriculum with Reading assessment tasks developed as part of the curriculum. These tasks will provide the A-E Reading assessment data which goes towards a students’ grade in English on the report card each semester and will provide consistency of assessment within and across schools.
In addition to this, there will be a variety of other ways that our teachers will track and monitor students’ skills and progress aligned to the evidenced base ‘Simple View of Reading’ and ‘Scarborough’s Reading Rope’ components. This semester we will be using the following methods, but this will change and morph as we move further towards the full implementation of the V 9 Reading within the AC.
Language Comprehension |
Cars and Stars Comprehension lessons and assessments for P-2 and Online lessons and assessments for Yr 3-6 are continuing. |
Word Reading (Phonological Awareness, Decoding) |
Soundwaves program diagnostic assessments P-6 |
Word Reading-Sight Recognition |
Special words (words that do not follow the regular phonics patterns) have replaced the tricky words and magic sight words (M100) and these are explicitly taught in class using orthographic mapping and then practised to ensure automatic recall and fluency. These words will continue to be sent home as part of homework in P-2 for continual practice. |
As we progress further into our action plan toward full implementation of all elements for 2026 we will continue to share more specific information about how you can support your child to read at home and about the changes to the way we are teaching reading at school. Currently our students are still participating in three reading groups per week where they are focused on levelled texts at their level or decodables and the conversations around these texts (dialogic reading) to develop decoding, comprehension and fluency skills. We are also continuing to send home readers (decodables or predictable texts as they are ready) and library books for students to read at home. We ask that parents continue to read and discuss these texts with their children to develop their decoding skills, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. In addition to this, students are also participating in explicit teaching of the reading components in class as part of their English units of work using texts from these units.
STUDENT COUNCIL PURCHASES
Our Student Council have spent the money raised from last year with the provision of sunscreen to every classroom, the new basketball backboard on the multi-court, a new table tennis table to be installed this week, plus they have also selected a new water-cooling system and the artwork for it at their meeting this week after evaluating the quotes and pros and cons of each system quoted. They are very excited to see the system below being installed. The new system will be installed under D Block and replacing one of the old bubbler troughs there. The system will include 3 bubblers and 3 bottle fillers. The artwork students have chosen for the bubblers is a Luke Penrith Aboriginal Artist Collaboration called ‘Connection’ which depicts a story of connection and harmony. This artwork captures where freshwater rivers meeting the salty sea. This symbolises the interconnectedness of life and the vital role water plays in our communities.
RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN
At our recent School Council meeting the School Council expressed an interest in creating a Reconciliation Action Plan for our school. To develop this plan we first of all need to create a working party of interested community members, parents and staff to work together on this project. If you are interested in being part of this group please email principal@enoggerass.eq.edu.au It is envisaged that this group would need to meet a few times over coming months either face to face or on TEAMS to identify what strategies we already have in place toward the path to reconciliation and to plan and document our next steps moving forward.
EASTER BREAK
After a busy Term One we wish all of our families a lovely relaxing Easter break and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term two on Tuesday April 22. Even though that is a very short 3 day week it will be action packed with the rescheduled cross country event on the Wednesday and our ANZAC Ceremony on the Thursday morning.
Happy Holidays!
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Happy Easter
It has been a very busy first term – with some unexpected days off due to the arrival of Cyclone Alfred! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching our preppies grow in their school confidence, and our new school captains step up into their leadership roles. It was disappointing that the Cross Country was cancelled due to the very wet grounds, but we will enjoy the event on Wednesday 23rd April.
I wish all the students and families an enjoyable and relaxing Easter Holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone in Term Two.
Student Council
Mrs Robinson and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the new class representatives of the Student Council throughout Term One. It has been wonderful to see the purchasing of many legacy items from last year’s fundraising including the class sunscreen, the basketball backboards, and the ping pong table. With two outdoor ping pong tables available from next term, we will reintroduce our roster for play from Years 3 -6. Next term, the Student Council has decided upon the following fundraising activities. Our students aim to raise money for charities as well as our school.
Kid’s Cancer Project – Dress Like a Pirate Day – Friday 9th May
Student Council Crazy Socks and Sunnies Day – Friday 13th June
Student Council Meal Deal – Monday 16th June
Indigenous Literacy Program Book Swap – Thursday 26th June
Wellbeing Initiative - Gratitude Stones – Week 7 (2nd – 6th June)

Easter Bonnet Parade
Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade will be held on Friday 4th April on the multipurpose court under the new roof!
This event is for Prep and Year One. Students will be walked down to the court after marking the roll in the morning with their bonnets on. Bonnets will be made by the students in their classes in preparation for this event.
Parents are welcome to attend and the audience area will be around the edges of the tennis court on the South Pine Road end. Each class will walk the parade circuit twice. There will then be an opportunity for parents to dance with the students for two songs after the parade. We look forward to seeing the students in the easter bonnets this year.
Prep Open Morning
Parents of Prep 2026 and all new prospective families are invited to meet with the Leadership Team to learn about our curriculum programs and extra-curricular offerings across the school, and enjoy a tour of our beautiful school. This information session is aimed at parents with a 90-minute presentation in the Performing Arts Centre before a tour of the grounds.

ANZAC Day 2025
Parents and caregivers are invited to join us for our school ANZAC Day service to be held on the front lawn of the school from 9am on Thursday 24th April. There will be limited seating for parents on the lawn, but there is plenty of standing room near the carpark and on the footpath.
We will also be marching at the local ANZAC Day march from Sid Loder Park. We meet at the park at 5:30am and the march begins at 6:00am. The School Captains then lay a wreath on behalf of the school during the ceremony. If you would like to bring your children along to march, please meet us at the park. You will see our school banner to locate where we are meeting. Unfortunately, parents are unable to march with the school group – only students can march with staff. This is to manage the length of the groups marching.

INVOICES
Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
YEAR 5/6 CAMP
Just a reminder to all parents of Year 5/6 students, the ESS Medical Details and Behaviour Form is due this Friday the 4th of April. Hard copies of this form have been sent home with students today, if you havent already sent this through via email please do so via admin@enoggerass.eq.edu.au or hand in the hard copy to your classroom teacher.
Please find attached the form due if you are unable to locate it;

STUDENT CREDITS
If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
LOST PROPERTY
Just letting parents and students know that at the end of each term all lost property with a name will be stored securely over the holidays and returned to the lost property shelves at the start of the following term. Anything without a name will be either thrown away or donated to charity i.e., handed to the P&C for second hand sales.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any concerns relating to finance or consents through QParents.
Have a fantastic break!
Ellie Mastrapostolos
Business Manager
We can’t believe that it is already the end of term one! We have had such a fun term getting to know the new friends in our classes.
This term in English we have been exploring characters; what they look like, what they do, how they feel and giving our opinion of them using information from the stories we have read. We loved practicing our presentation skills during show and share and we presented our characters to our friends.
In Science and HASS, we have been learning about the features of different places, including local places like our school. We loved looking at photos from the past and talking about how and why places change.
We are looking forward to the Easter Bonnet parade on Friday to finish off the term, and would like to wish all of our families and the school community a safe holiday break.
Year 1 Teachers
QLearn
There were only a few visits to QLearn outside of school hours last week. It is hoped that over the holidays many students access the resources and continue to practice logging-on to the website. Year One parents are reminded they may have missed an email (check junk mail) explaining how to assist their child/ren with accessing QLearn and helping to locate the correct keys. Currently we have a group of Year One students who can now easily access QLearn and some who continue to require a great deal of assistance with this skill. Your assistance at home will be much appreciated.
Premier’s Coding Challenge
Students interested in the Premier’s Coding Challenge are asked to collect their parent/guardian expression of interest form from Mr Harris. The permission slip must be completed and signed then returned to the school Office or Mr Harris. (Not to the classroom teacher) The Challenge this year is around the 17 United Nations Sustainability Goals, which is already leading some Year 4-6 students to independently research topics like poverty, sustainability, oceanic garbage patches and improved education (just to name a few).
Go to QLearn to view Premier’s Coding Challenge project ideas and information. Students are reminded that they have special Computer Lab passes so they may develop their computer applications either before school or any lunchbreak. We have 6 months to go, but it takes a lot of work to perfect the coding and enter the competition.
Mathletics
First term 2025 Mathletics statistics are extremely positive with an amazing report that more than 50% of the Mathletics time is after school and weekends. Some parents/guardians may not be aware that this site is a really excellent resource that the school has purchased for us. Students are encouraged to participate whenever they can, as it helps with maths skills development, confidence and how to independently learn new concepts.
Michael Harris
Digital Technologies Teacher
Class Swimming
A big thank-you to all of our parents/grandparents and caregivers in the lower years who have been continually been attending and supporting their students during swimming lessons. I really appreciate your support in the classes as it allows more quality time with assisting the students.
The weather has been challenging over the last few weeks. Hopefully we can have the last week of swimming under blue sky. When the weather is a little cooler, I will try to keep the students moving, however time outside of the pool may be needed.
This is our last week of swimming until Term 4.
Inter-House Cross Country
Our inter-house cross country was postponed due to the oval being far too wet for the students to safely run the course. Our aim will be to hold the event in the first week back at school on Wednesday the 23rd of April. This will be a short week, with public holidays on either side. We would love all students to attend this event.
Due to the timing, it only gives us a very small window to get into the City District trials which are on Friday 2nd May.
Students are encouraged to keep training over the holidays so they are “race fit” for the cross country.
3 on 3 Basketball
The final of the 3 on 3 basketball will be held this week.
Sorry, at the time of submitting the newsletter item we don’t have a winner just yet.
Happy and Safe Holidays
I want to wish you all a happy and safe holiday. Take the time to recharge for what will undoubtedly another busy sporting term in Term 2.
Term 2 will see our focus move into athletics – running, jumping and throwing.
Mr Andrew Woodrick
HPE Teacher

Soft Plastics Recycling and feed the worms: daily activity
The dedicated students in Sustainability Club have now modified their daily eating time activity to collect both food scraps and students’ soft plastics. We can now recycle the soft plastics again. The packets get posted directly to the recycling station through Australia Post.
If you wish to recycle your soft plastics simply place everything in a plastic bag and dump the load into our 240L soft plastics bin that is stationed in the alcove near the girls toilets. I will post the load during the school holiday.
Containers for Change: Friday second break
The first load of containers for change have been collected and it is a bumper haul. The two 240L bins were completely full and thanks to a few families donating their empties, two of the smaller bins were full as well.
One thing to work on with our students is how to properly prepare the containers for recycling and actually putting rubbish in the rubbish bin. Thankfully, the weekly sort is saving the containers, however if we can educate the students that little bit more, the work for the Friday gang will be that much easier.
The images attached show the amount of recycling coming from one bin and the disgusting contamination it included.
Gardening: Tuesday first Break
Exciting news. All the students hard work has begun to pay off. The rockmelon are setting and the growing fruit can be seen, at every stage of development. The beans and tomato plants also have flowers forming. Term two will hopefully see an opportunity for the students to taste freshly grown Enoggera produce.
Sustainability Connections
Camp Australia are working closely with the Sustainability Club to provide that authentic connection between the school and after-school. Every week the learning that is provided during Sustainability Club is offered before school to Camp Australia students and it is very popular.
This term Camp Australia students have set up a worm farm and the students are now putting the food scraps into the worm farm. The students also germinated beans and last week they planted their seedlings into the garden.
One of the biggest thrills for the students was when Mr Reynaldo found a huge worm in the leaf litter near the swimming pool. He brought it over and placed into the garden. There was a huge conversation then, about whether the worm should be put in the worm farm. Magical.
From time to time, children may experience challenging times like starting a new school, moving house, having a prolonged illness or dealing with family changes. Resilience is the ability to ‘bounce back’ after these challenges and tough times. It’s the ability to adapt to challenges that you can’t change. Children build resilience through experience and having strong, supportive relationships with family members and their community. Developing resilience is important for children because it helps promote their overall emotional, social, and mental well-being. Children who develop resilience are more likely to manage stressful situations, adapt to change, and handle life’s setbacks more easily.
The following are some ways to help build resilience with your child.
Build Strong Relationships
Establishing a supportive relationship with your child helps provide a secure base from which they can explore and face challenges when they arise. A strong bond with a primary caregiver gives a child the confidence to develop the skills required to manage challenging times, build social skills and improve emotional wellbeing. Showing unconditional love and support helps to develop strong, secure relationships. Spending quality time with your child by doing activities such as reading a bedtime story, playing a favourite game or listening to how their day went are simple ways to encourage a positive relationship with your child.
Teach Problem-Solving Skills and Independence Resilient children are those who learn how to solve problems and think independently. Allow your child to make age-appropriate choices and let them face small challenges without immediately stepping in to solve problems. Help your child learn to trust themselves and to solve minor problems on their own by brainstorming possible solutions. Encourage healthy risk-taking by letting your child try new activities, like joining a new sport or hobby, even if there’s a chance they might fail. This helps them learn that mistakes are a natural part of growth and that it’s okay not to always succeed.
Encourage Emotional Awareness
Helping children identify and understand their emotions is a vital part of building resilience. When facing a challenge, identify and acknowledge your child’s feelings and reassure them. Encourage your child to talk about their feelings regularly and ask open-ended questions like, “How did that situation make you feel?” Validate your child’s feelings by acknowledging how they are feeling during a challenging time.
Build Self - Compassion
Positive self-talk is an important way to build resilience in children. Teach children to be kind to themselves and help them to reframe negative thoughts into more constructive ones. This can help shift their perspective and help them to manage disappointment or concern.
Build a Positive Growth Mindset
A positive growth mindset helps children understand that challenges are an opportunity to learn and grow. Praise effort and perseverance rather than just outcomes. For instance, if your child is learning a new skill, praise their persistence in trying even if they fall, rather than just congratulating them when they finally succeed. Set achievable goals together and celebrate progress along the way to help them stay motivated.
