Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Just a reminder that students are currently undertaking final assessments for the reporting period. Please ensure your child is on time and at school every day unless they are sick. This is to ensure they are in the best possible position to ‘Achieve SuccESS @ ESS’. Once the hard work is done, we will celebrate the end of semester with some fun activities in the last week of school including, the Principal’s Award’s Assembly, Jnr and Snr Sports Days, Slime Run for Chaplaincy and the Under 8’s morning on the last morning of term.
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF
Our multi-purpose roof is coming along and looking fantastic. In fact, they are currently ahead of schedule, so we are hoping that practical completion and approvals are finalised before the holidays. This will be great news for us and our students who are involved in SLICE Tennis after school, as they are currently having their lessons in an alternative location on the school grounds. We are still awaiting news around the ‘Stronger Communities’ grant to add the lighting to the roof, but are hopeful this will happen very soon.
UNDER EIGHTS DAY
Each year, we celebrate Under Eights Week with a special morning of activities for our under eights. This year it is on the last morning of the term, and we are pleased to have our oval back this year so we can spread out the activities on the oval and surrounds. We have invited our transition partners (Kindy and Day Care Centres), the Everton Park Library, Everton Park State High School and the Emergency Services. so it is shaping up to be a fantastic morning. Of course, the morning does not work without the generous support of parents to supervise small groups of students around the activities, as the teachers are busy running the activities on the morning.
We look forward to seeing as many families as possible join us for this great morning to round out the semester.
BRISBANE NORTH READER’S CUP COMPETITION
This week we had two teams of students in Yr 5/6 represent our school at the Brisbane North Reader’s Cup competition. This is only the second year we have participated in the competition and we were astounded at the success our students achieved. Enoggera Team 1 came 1st out of 44 teams from both state and private schools represented on the day, and our Enoggera Team 2, came 2nd. Enoggera Team 1 were in the lead after 3 rounds with 47 points and maintained their lead to the end to finish with a massive 75 out of 100. Enoggera Team 2 finished strong when the questions were at the most difficult. They were in 5th place after Round 3 with 44 points but gained enough in the last 2 rounds to finish in 2nd with 72.5 points, only ½ a point ahead of 3rd place. This is almost unheard of for a school to take out 1st and 2nd, which just shows the depth of talent in our reading programs at Enoggera. Mrs O’Malley and I have worked with our teams for the past 10 weeks in preparation and were so impressed at their commitment to the competition to read and study in detail the 5 novels and attend all of the meetings each week. Our Team 1 now gets to do it all again with new books so they can represent Brisbane North at the State Competition to be held on Thursday, September 7th at Moreton Bay College.
Congratulations teams as we are ever so proud of your well-deserved success!

FULL SCHOOL REVIEW
This week our School Leadership team of myself, Mrs Burrows, Mrs O’Malley, Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Paton all attended a meeting with our Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director to look at our report from our School Review, held at the end of last term. We worked on unpacking the report further to inform the Quadrennial School Review and ultimately our 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. It was great to share some of the positive affirmations at this meeting.
Our reports were shared in the last school newsletter and will be up on our website shortly. In case you haven’t been able to read the Executive Summary shared or the infographic, they include four key affirmations and five improvement strategies to guide our next steps. I would like to share one of the key affirmations in this newsletter.
Confidence and pride in the school is shared by staff, parents and students.
Strong partnerships between staff and parents are valued, and the ‘small school’ feel is held in high regard by community members. Parents resonate a strong sense of community within the school and display a sense of belonging, with many actively participating in school activities. There is a commonly held belief that every student is able to realise their potential when provided with appropriate support.
This was wonderful to hear that the reviewers heard what we believe and that we are very lucky to be part of a wonderful school community who work together to support one another to ensure our students achieve the very best opportunities so that they can realise their full potential.
PERFORMING ARTS WINTER SOIREE
Our Performing Arts Department have decided to provide our students with an additional opportunity to perform this semester to showcase their repertoires. The Winter Soiree (afternoon concert) will be held this Thursday, June 8th at 5pm in EPAC and is free to enter. The evening should conclude between 6 and 6.30. The Teachers have been in contact with the parents of students in the groups that are performing at the concert. There will not be any costumes required as students will perform in their Strings shirt or school polo with the standard performing bottoms of black dress pants, black school shoes, and black socks.
OPEN DAY
We held our first Open Day for this year on May 26 and we had over 30 new families looking to enrol here for 2024, either in Prep or other year levels. We will hold another Open Day in the middle of next term (date TBA) prior to finalising our Prep enrolments for next year with Prep enrolment interviews at the need of term 3, and then our Prep transition program in Term 4. If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here, please let them know we are currently accepting Prep enrolments for next year. We also have an out of catchment waiting list.
ROBO CUP JUNIOR AUSTRALIA CHALLENGE
This Saturday (June 10) we have some of our Senior Robotics students attending the 2023 ROBO Cup Junior Australia Challenge at Somerville House for the first time to enter into the On-Stage Novice section. A small group of keen Robotics students have been synchronising dance, robotics and music into a performance. Our students have used their new Wakakirri finale dance as their inspiration for choreographing their robots to perform. They previewed their performance for us on assembly on Monday and it was amazing to see the work they had put in to code and decorate their robots. We thank Mr Harris for putting in the time with these students to prepare and we look forward to hearing how they go on Saturday as they represent our school.
More information about the competition can be found at: https://www.robocupjunior.org.au/onstage/
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Dress Code
As the weather cools down, it is a good time to remind parents that students are required to either wear a school jacket available at the uniform shop (open Tuesday morning from 8am); or a plain jumper in a school blue colour. Students are not permitted to wear hoodies or jumpers with any printing or designs on them. Girls are permitted to wear blue stockings (or black if blue is unavailable). All students can also wear plain school blue tracksuit pants.
This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference.
Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. We encourage all of our parents to follow our page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed.
A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.

Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around safety – focusing on being in the right place at the right time. We are also reminding students of what areas are out of bounds for their safety during the breaks and before/after school.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school.
The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Subway Meal Deal is being held on Tuesday 20th June. This is the Junior Tabloid Sport Day. Please remember to place your orders on line by Friday 16th June to ensure you receive your subway meal on the following Tuesday.
On Assembly this week, we did a special draw for our Kindness Gotchas. There were so many Kindness Gotchas in the box, and 10 lucky students were drawn out and received a prize for showing kindness to others.
Finally, the Student Council supports the Sustainability Club’s Wrapper Free Wednesday initiative and ask that parents consider how they can reduce waste in lunch boxes on Wednesday.
SLIME RUN
Do you want to slime Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burrows!
Make sure you have signed up to do your fundraising. The highest fundraiser in the school gets to slime Mrs Robinson; and if we raise $10 000, the highest class will get to slime Mrs Burrows!
So don’t forget to ask your family, friends and relatives to help you raise money for the Slime Run!
Fundraising for our Slime Spectacular School Fun Run is entirely online. Follow the instructions in your child’s sponsorship booklet to create a cybersafe, online profile page at www.australianfundraising.com.au. At the end of our fundraiser students can order up to a total of 5 prizes based on their donations received. They can even mix and match!
For further information, please contact Chappy Twinkee on twinkee.polius@suchaplaincy.org.au or 07 3550 1333
One of our current School Council parent representatives, Lisa McDonald, has recently stepped down from their position. We are very grateful to Lisa for the valuable contribution she made to the School Council. This has created a parent representative vacancy on the School Council and the opportunity for any interested parents to submit a nomination form.
The School Council meets once every term on a Monday afternoon from 3:15pm for approximately an hour. The meeting is both in person and via teams, so you do not have to come to school to attend the meeting. Nominations will be voted on by the current members at the meeting on Monday 7th August. Nomination forms should be emailed to Tina Burrows (tburr11@eq.edu.au) as the current chair of the School Council by Friday 4th August.
We look forward to receiving any nominations and welcoming a new parent representative to our School Council.

Hello everyone!
Our Year classrooms have combined to study and create their own piece of fossilised art found in nature. Many fossils were created and decorated with natural and manufactured materials. We then wrote a little story about each fossil. We wrote about turtles trapped in the mud, discovered popular toys left in the playground and even discovered one of the very first ‘selfies’ of a young girl. We’re looking forward to our next challenge of creating a sculpture from recycled materials later this week.
3A opened a fraction pizza shop called ‘Pizzaz Pizza. Students got a chance to create their own unique fraction pizza to learn about fractions and equivalent fractions. Did you know that 4/8 equals ½? I wonder if you know the equivalent fraction for 8/8? We do! Written by Lara.

Most days before 3B dives into a Maths lesson we usually do a warm up. We do what is called ‘Three Minute Speed Test’. This warm up is get their brains ticking over ready for the lesson. The best thing is it is against themselves and teaching students the focus needed to better results in that time frame. Students really look forward to these warm ups!

Firstly, a big thank you for families following up with hats for their students in PE lessons, there has been a marked difference of hats on heads. Well done!

NAIDOC Celebrations
To celebrate NAIDOC Week 2nd – 9th July 2023 students will have the opportunity to attend the Googabinj show on Wednesday 12th July from 9:15 – 10:05am in EPAC. The show starts with a story about a young boy who is so uncontrollable that the tribe send him off to his uncle, a wise tribal elder who helps teach the boy about respecting and caring for the land and its’ animals.
Thoughout the story the artist displays his wonderful collection of native artefacts and weapons and demonstrates how his hunter gatherer ancestors made very effective hunting tools like the boomerang, spear, nulla nulla and woomera from the natural environment.
Students are taught traditional greetings and guess which animals and birds are being impersonated on colourful didgeridoos.
The cost of this show will be $5.50 per student and information will be provided later this week.
Vegetable Gardens.
The new vegetable gardens are operational and they look great. Beans, tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower are all growing very well thanks to the students of the gardening club especially Ziyi Wang and the youngsters from Prep to year 2. Further, the students have started fertilising the plants with worm wee from our worm gardens, maybe that’s why the plants are looking so good.

Containers for Change.
The students will be sorting the contains every Wednesday. We would greatly appreciate your unwanted containers.
November we will also be able to add wine and spirit bottles so hang onto your containers so our year 5 students can sort and raise a little extra cash for their Legacy project.

Feed the Worms.
Big news! This week the students help be start a brand-new worm farm. We now have 9 worm farms operating. All the taps have been repaired so our organic recycling process can be completed. When we replant our vegetable gardens next term we will have a layer of nutrient rich soil to top dress the garden with. Term three promises to be a very exciting time for the Enoggera Earthworms Environmental Club.
Enoggera Earthworm Environmental Excellence Award.
The Enoggera Earthworms Environmental Excellence Award will be awarded to a student or class demonstrating amazing activities at the school. This fortnight that award was presented to Ziyi Wang 5/6c for his dedication to all aspects of the Environmental Club. Ziyi is a leader who not only engages with the duties enthusiastically but he actively supports the younger students so they are learning about keeping our Earth healthy for the next generation.
